In this article, we will present those 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites that can be visited during a Croatian sea cruise.
1% of the UNESCO World Heritage List belongs to Croatia. These are ten objects, two of which are acknowledged to be the Masterpieces of Human Creative Genius. Fifteen more objects are on the list of candidates. Let's see seven of them which you can include to the sailing route.

The Old City of Dubrovnik | Stari grad Dubrovnikа

The castle was founded in 972. In those days the old city of Dubrovnik was a separate island and a narrow canal separating it from the sea was filled in the 12th century. These streets have remained practically intact for more than a thousand years delighting the eye with picturesque panoramas of the Red Harbour. The Old City is also well-known to all the fans of the Game of Thrones.

The Historic Center of Split and Diocletian's Palace | Split s Dioklecijanovom palačom

The palace was built during the reign of the Roman emperor Diocletian who ruled from 284 to 305 AD. It takes more than three hectares of land. The palace, built from bricks from the island of Brac, marble from Marmara and granite columns brought from Egypt, was an impressive palace complex with a great hall, imperial mausoleum, temples and a vestibule with a dome.

The Historic Center of Trogir | Stari Grad Trogira

The town owes its name to the Greeks. "Tragos" means a herd of goats. This was the first impression of the Dorians, an ancient greek tribe, as they discovered a small island of land in the 3rd millennium BC. Later, it became a Greek colony but a lot of rulers changed during long centuries. The historic centre is really tiny but it has kept masterpieces of architecture of different times.
The Cathedral of St. James in Šibenik | Katedrala sv. Jakova u Šibeniku
The Cathedral of the Šibenik diocese is one of the seven Croatian cathedrals which have the honorary status of 'small basilica'. It is a masterpiece of the Medieval Dalmatian architecture which was founded in 1431. The work was performed by Juraj Dalmatinac, Nikola Firentinac, Bartolmeo of Mestra and his son. The building was finished in 1521 and in 1555 the cathedral was consecrated as the Cathedral of the Šibenik diocese.

The Stari Grad Plain on the island of Hvar | Starogradsko polje na Hvaru

The Stari Grad Plain is a unique natural landmark on the island of Hvar near the town of Stari Grad. It consists of the ancient stone walls and the so-called 'trims', small stone shelters. Apart from that, even after almost 2500 years the ancient Greek system of land division called 'chora' has remained here. Thanks to it the territory is divided into small multicolored plots of land.

Venetian Works of defense between 15th and 17th centuries | Mletačke utvrde od 15. do 17. Stoljeća

This object consists of 15 components of defense works in Croatia, Italy, and Montenegro, taking more than 1,000 kilometres between the Lombard region of Italy and the eastern Adriatic Coast. The defense works rounded the coast by a semicircle and protected the Venetian Republic from North-West, sea lanes and ports from East. In Croatia, you can watch them in Zadar and Šibenik.

The Euphrasian Basilica in the town of Poreč | Biskupska zgrada Eufrazijeve bazilike u Poreču

The Diocese of Poreč is one of the most ancient on the Adriatic. It was founded between the 3d and 4th century. Apart from the basilica, the architectural complex consists of a sacristy, a baptistry, an Episcopal residence, and a bell tower. It is one of the most valuable examples of Byzantine art in this region. The floor mosaics inside the church represents the early Christian symbol of fish. It remained intact until the present.
